Is Vevye in shortage in 2026? Get the latest update on Vevye availability, access barriers, and what patients can do to get their dry eye medication.

Is Vevye in Shortage in 2026?

The short answer: No. Vevye is not on the FDA's official drug shortage list as of 2026. It is commercially available through major wholesale distributors and can be ordered by retail pharmacies. However, many patients still struggle to get Vevye filled — and understanding why can help you get it faster.

What the FDA Shortage Database Says

The FDA maintains a public database of drug shortages at fda.gov. As of 2026, Vevye (cyclosporine ophthalmic solution 0.1%) does not appear in this database. There is no official supply chain disruption or manufacturing shortage affecting Vevye.

Vevye is distributed through major pharmaceutical wholesalers — McKesson, Cardinal Health, and Cencora — and can be shipped to virtually any retail pharmacy in the United States within approximately 24 hours.

So Why Can't Some Patients Get Vevye?

The barriers to getting Vevye are almost entirely access-related, not supply-related. The most common reasons:

  • Prior authorization (PA) requirements from insurance companies that delay or block coverage
  • Step therapy policies requiring patients to try a different medication first
  • Individual pharmacies simply not having Vevye in stock because they haven't ordered it yet
  • High list price (~$900-$1,070 per bottle) deterring patients who don't know about savings programs
  • Being a newer medication (approved only in May 2023) means some pharmacies are still unfamiliar with it

The Access Landscape Has Improved Significantly in 2025

  • January 2025: Vevye added to key Medicare Part D formularies including Express Scripts, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, and CVS Caremark — covering more than 25 million Medicare Part D beneficiaries
  • March 2025: VEVYE Access for All program launched through specialty pharmacy PhilRx, offering $59 per bottle with no prior authorization and free home delivery
  • April 2025: Program expanded to patients transitioning from compounded cyclosporine 0.1% (Klarity-C)
  • All US Medicaid programs and approximately 60% of commercial insurance providers now cover Vevye

What Is the VEVYE Access for All Program?

VEVYE Access for All (VAFA) is a program launched by Harrow in March 2025 that eliminates most common access barriers:

  • No prior authorization — prescribers send the prescription to PhilRx via their EMR system
  • No step therapy — patients don't need to fail another drug first
  • Free home delivery — medication shipped directly to the patient's home
  • Price: $59 per bottle for cash-pay patients; potentially $0 for eligible commercially insured patients
  • Money-back guarantee for eligible cash-pay patients on their first fill

What Should You Do If You Can't Get Vevye?

  1. Search for pharmacies with Vevye in stock near you at Medfinder.com
  2. Ask your doctor to send your prescription to PhilRx for VEVYE Access for All pricing ($59)
  3. Apply for the VEVYE Savings Card at vevye.com — commercially insured patients may pay $0
  4. If PA is required, ask your doctor's office to submit it immediately with supporting documentation
  5. Call Harrow patient support at 833-442-7769

Will There Be a Generic Vevye?

Currently, there is no FDA-approved generic version of Vevye. The medication has patent protections that will delay generic entry for years. Lower-concentration generic cyclosporine (0.05%) is available as generic Restasis. Your doctor can advise whether this is an appropriate alternative.

Bottom Line

Vevye is not in shortage — but access barriers are real and can make it feel that way. The good news is that Harrow has built programs specifically designed to get around those barriers. Most patients can now get Vevye for $59 or less with the right approach.
