Warfarin (Blood Thinners): Monitor Closely
Moxifloxacin can enhance the anticoagulant (blood-thinning) effects of warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven). The mechanism isn't fully understood but is likely related to changes in gut bacteria that affect vitamin K metabolism. If you're on warfarin, your INR (a measure of how thin your blood is) should be monitored more frequently while taking moxifloxacin — your warfarin dose may need temporary adjustment.
Signs of excessive anticoagulation to watch for: unusual bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts, blood in urine or stool, or severe headache (possible brain bleed). Report these immediately.
Diabetes Medications: Blood Sugar Changes
