Voydeya (danicopan) interacts with rosuvastatin, BCRP substrates, and P-gp substrates. Learn which drug interactions to watch for and what to tell your doctor before starting.

Voydeya (danicopan) interacts with a number of other medications — including some commonly prescribed drugs like statins and blood thinners. Understanding these interactions is essential for your safety. Before starting Voydeya, make sure your hematologist and all other prescribing providers know your complete medication list, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements.

Why Does Voydeya Interact with Other Drugs?

Danicopan (Voydeya) affects how certain drugs are transported and metabolized in your body. Specifically:

It inhibits BCRP (Breast Cancer Resistance Protein): BCRP is a transporter protein that helps move certain drugs out of cells. When danicopan blocks BCRP, drugs that rely on BCRP for elimination build up to higher-than-expected levels in your body — increasing the risk of their side effects.

It inhibits P-glycoprotein (P-gp): P-gp is another drug transporter. When danicopan blocks P-gp, drugs that depend on P-gp for their clearance reach higher blood concentrations, which can increase both therapeutic effects and side effects.

Most Important Interaction: Rosuvastatin (Crestor)

This is the single most clinically significant drug interaction with Voydeya. Danicopan significantly increases rosuvastatin (Crestor) blood levels because rosuvastatin is both a BCRP and OATP substrate.

What you need to do: If you take rosuvastatin, your dose must be reduced to no more than 10 mg once daily when taking Voydeya. Higher doses of rosuvastatin combined with Voydeya significantly increase the risk of rosuvastatin side effects, including muscle damage (myopathy) and, in severe cases, rhabdomyolysis. Talk to your prescriber about adjusting your statin dose before starting Voydeya.

Other BCRP Substrate Interactions

Other drugs that use BCRP for elimination may also have their blood levels increased by Voydeya. These include:

Methotrexate (used for autoimmune conditions and cancer) — monitor closely for toxicity

Irinotecan (chemotherapy) — increased risk of irinotecan toxicity

Nitrofurantoin (antibiotic) — monitor for side effects

If you take any of these medications, inform your hematologist before starting Voydeya. Your doctor may reduce the dose of the BCRP substrate medication and monitor you more frequently for adverse effects.

P-Glycoprotein (P-gp) Substrate Interactions

Because danicopan inhibits P-gp, the following medications may have elevated blood levels and increased effects when combined with Voydeya. Dose adjustments may be needed — especially for drugs where small changes in blood concentration cause serious problems:

Apixaban (Eliquis) — blood thinner; higher levels increase bleeding risk

Dabigatran (Pradaxa) — blood thinner; P-gp inhibition significantly raises dabigatran levels

Digoxin (heart medication) — narrow therapeutic window; increased levels can cause toxicity

Colchicine (for gout) — increased colchicine levels; risk of toxicity

Cyclosporine (immunosuppressant) — dose adjustment may be required

What About Food and Drink Interactions?

There are no known clinically significant interactions between Voydeya and specific foods or beverages. You can take Voydeya with or without food. The effect of alcohol on Voydeya has not been specifically studied — ask your doctor for guidance if you drink regularly.

What to Tell Your Doctor and Pharmacist Before Starting Voydeya

Before your first dose of Voydeya, provide a complete medication list to your hematologist and specialty pharmacist, including:

All prescription medications (including the strength and dose)

Over-the-counter medications (pain relievers, antacids, antihistamines)

Vitamins and supplements (including herbal products)

Any statin medications — especially rosuvastatin, which requires dose adjustment

Any blood thinners (anticoagulants), especially apixaban and dabigatran

Frequently Asked Questions

The most important drug interaction with Voydeya is rosuvastatin — danicopan significantly increases rosuvastatin blood levels, so the dose must be capped at 10 mg/day. Other important interactions involve BCRP substrates (methotrexate, irinotecan, nitrofurantoin) and P-gp substrates (apixaban, dabigatran, digoxin, colchicine, cyclosporine), which may require dose adjustments and increased monitoring.

Yes, but at a reduced dose. Danicopan significantly increases rosuvastatin blood levels. If you take rosuvastatin, your dose must be reduced to no more than 10 mg once daily while on Voydeya. Higher doses significantly increase the risk of muscle-related side effects (myopathy). Talk to your prescriber before starting Voydeya.

Blood thinners that are P-gp substrates — including apixaban (Eliquis) and dabigatran (Pradaxa) — may have elevated blood levels when taken with Voydeya, increasing bleeding risk. Your hematologist and cardiologist should review your anticoagulant therapy before you start Voydeya, and close monitoring is recommended. Dose adjustments may be needed.

There are no known clinically significant food interactions with Voydeya, and it can be taken with or without food. The effect of alcohol on Voydeya therapy has not been specifically studied. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor, especially because Voydeya can affect liver enzymes and alcohol also stresses liver function.

BCRP (Breast Cancer Resistance Protein) is a transporter that helps carry certain drugs out of cells and eliminate them from the body. Voydeya (danicopan) inhibits BCRP, meaning drugs that rely on BCRP for elimination build up to higher levels in the body when taken with Voydeya. This can intensify both the effects and side effects of BCRP substrates like rosuvastatin, methotrexate, and irinotecan.
