Can't find Climara Pro? Here are real alternatives your doctor may prescribe, including CombiPatch, Activella, Prempro, and Bijuva for HRT.
If you've been told your Climara Pro patch is out of stock or on backorder, you're facing a real problem — especially if you depend on it to manage hot flashes or protect your bone health. Going without hormone therapy isn't just uncomfortable; for some women, it can mean a return of severe vasomotor symptoms within days.
The good news is that Climara Pro isn't the only combination hormone therapy available. There are several real alternatives your doctor can prescribe, and understanding your options can help you make an informed decision quickly.
Climara Pro is a once-weekly transdermal patch made by Bayer. It delivers two hormones through the skin:
The combination of estrogen and progestin in a single patch makes it particularly convenient for women with an intact uterus who need both hormones. It's FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats) and preventing postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Several factors have made Climara Pro difficult to find since late 2023:

If you and your doctor decide to switch, here are the most commonly prescribed alternatives. Each one combines estrogen with a progestin (or progesterone) for women with an intact uterus.
CombiPatch is probably the closest alternative to Climara Pro. It's also a combination estrogen-progestin patch, but with two key differences:
CombiPatch comes in two strengths: 0.05 mg/0.14 mg and 0.05 mg/0.25 mg per day. Like Climara Pro, it's brand-name only and can be pricey — typically $250–$400 per month without insurance.
Best for: Women who prefer a patch but can't find Climara Pro and don't mind changing their patch twice a week.
Activella is an oral combination of estradiol and norethindrone acetate taken once daily. The big advantage: a generic version is available, which can bring the cost down to $30–$80 per month with a discount card.
The tradeoff is that oral hormones pass through the liver before entering the bloodstream (first-pass metabolism), which may slightly increase the risk of blood clots compared to transdermal delivery. However, for many women, this risk remains low and Activella is a well-tolerated option.
Best for: Women who are okay switching from a patch to a pill, especially if cost is a concern.
Prempro is one of the most widely studied combination HRT medications. It combines conjugated estrogens (derived from horse urine) with medroxyprogesterone acetate. A generic version is available, making it one of the more affordable options at around $30–$60 per month.
Prempro uses different hormones than Climara Pro — conjugated estrogens rather than estradiol, and MPA rather than levonorgestrel. Some women and providers prefer bioidentical estradiol over conjugated estrogens, but Prempro has decades of clinical data behind it.
Best for: Women looking for an affordable, well-studied oral option and whose providers recommend conjugated estrogens.
Bijuva is a newer option that combines bioidentical estradiol with bioidentical progesterone in a single daily capsule. It's the only FDA-approved combination product using both bioidentical hormones.
Bijuva is brand-name only and costs around $200–$300 per month without insurance. Some patients and providers prefer it because it uses progesterone (identical to the body's natural hormone) rather than a synthetic progestin.
Best for: Women who want a bioidentical combination and are comfortable with an oral formulation.
Switching hormone therapy should always be done with your doctor's guidance. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Not being able to find Climara Pro is stressful, but you do have options. CombiPatch offers the closest transdermal experience, Activella and Prempro provide affordable oral alternatives with generic availability, and Bijuva brings a bioidentical approach.
Talk to your prescriber about which option makes the most sense for your situation, and use Medfinder to check availability — both for Climara Pro and for any alternative your doctor recommends.
