Airsupra is a first-of-its-kind rescue inhaler that combines albuterol (a short-acting beta2-agonist or SABA) with budesonide (an inhaled corticosteroid or ICS) in a single device. It is FDA-approved for as-needed treatment or prevention of bronchoconstriction and reduction of the risk of exacerbations in adults aged 18 and older with asthma. Manufactured by AstraZeneca, Airsupra is the first rescue inhaler to include an anti-inflammatory component, providing both immediate symptom relief and inflammation control in one puff.

Albuterol (ProAir, Ventolin, Proventil):
Traditional SABA rescue inhaler. Widely available as a generic and much less expensive, but does not contain an anti-inflammatory component.
Levalbuterol (Xopenex):
A purified form of albuterol (R-isomer only). May cause fewer side effects like jitteriness and rapid heartbeat. Available as nebulizer solution and MDI.
Symbicort (Budesonide/Formoterol):
Combination ICS/LABA maintenance inhaler that can also be used as maintenance and reliever therapy (MART). Contains budesonide like Airsupra but with a long-acting beta-agonist.
Breyna (Budesonide/Formoterol generic):
Generic alternative to Symbicort. More affordable ICS/LABA combination for maintenance and reliever therapy.
